User Authentication MethodsThe Wiology solution PIApoint.mso supports many different options for the user authentication, authorization and access control . The overall goal is make your customers live easy and provide different access methods depending on individual needs. The available options include:
Site & Zone Definition
A site is an individual location where the
MSO is offering wireless broadband service. This can be a hotel,
convention center, marina etc. and each site is supported by either a
single wireless access point, multiple access point of even a wireless
mesh network. The backbone connection is supported with a single
or multiple cable modems. One or many sites can be grouped into zones in order to easier administer different available features, such as prices, authentication methods etc. It also helps to enable partners to offer their own provider or franchised offering, e.g. local coffee shop or retail store with multiple locations. The cable operator has has the capability to define many different zones either within one Head-end or even over multiple Head-ends. The operator can allow or deny hotspot roaming in between the different sites and zones. Individual Login & Welcome Page - per site or zone
PIApoint.mso enables
the MSO to present the user with an individual login page for After his successful authentication the user can be presented with any website as his welcome page. This could be the zones home page, your operators home page, franchise partner, specific regional information or similar. RoamingPIApoint.mso enable 3 different types of roaming for the MSO.
The MSO has full control about the allowed authentication types in each zone. The roaming features enhance the reach of the authentication above and beyond the individual zone. The Inter Zone roaming defines the ability to use the same authentication mechanism in multiple zones within the same Head-end. The Intra MSO roaming allows the MSO to support roaming from one Head-end to the other with the same user credentials. The 3rd party feature allows the MSO to engage in roaming agreements with global operators such as T-Mobile, iPass, Trustive. PIApoint Standard FeaturesAll PIApoint standard features are obviously also still available in the MSO and Head-end and provide all advanced functionality for a commercial Wi-Fi deployment. These features include:
No complicated client software or configuration is required. The setup and user authentication process is secure, simple and without technical complications or handicaps
